Gucci – one of the world's leading luxury brands –
is pleased to announce the opening of its first store in India.
As a first location, Gucci has chosen Mumbai. Located at the prestigious Galleria, Nariman Point, the Gucci Mumbai store is the largest luxury store in India and is composed of a selling space of 3,400 square feet sprawled over one story, with vistas of the Arabian Sea.
The new Gucci store will house men's and women's collections of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, watches, sunglasses, jewelry, small leather goods, gifting items and other accessories. Throughout the store, visitors are introduced to the new Gucci shopping experience. Customers receive an unparalleled and luxurious combination of personal service and attention to detail, elevating shopping at Gucci to an unforgettable experience. The store showcases luxurious, exclusive and carefully conceived details: the signature touch of the iconic brand extends to the chocolate brown turbans which have been custom designed in Italy especially for the Gucci staff in the Mumbai store.
Mark Lee – President and CEO of Gucci – said: "India is emerging as one of the fastest growing markets for luxury. We are delighted to enter the Indian market and are fully confident to see our 86 year heritage of high quality, made in Italy, exclusive and innovative products appreciated by Indian customers."
Gucci Mumbai is the first of several stores to open in the coming years. Two more Gucci stores will follow in New Delhi, the first by the end of the year and the second one in 2008.
Gucci Mumbai store opened to the public on September 13, 2007. The Grand Opening is set to take place on October 13, 2007.
About Gucci
Founded in Florence in 1921, Gucci is one of the world's leading luxury brands. Gucci designs, manufactures and distributes high-quality and highly desirable products such as leather goods (handbags, small leather goods, and luggage), shoes, ready-to-wear, silks, timepieces and fine jewelry. Eyewear and fragrances are manufactured and distributed under license by global industry leaders in these two sectors. Gucci's core values are uncompromised craftsmanship, outstanding quality and absolute made in Italy (with the only exception of watches, which are produced in Switzerland). According to a perfect balance between creativity and results, Gucci posted another record year in 2006, with revenues amounting to 2,101 million Euro (+16.8%, on top of a 18.4% growth in 2005) and a recurring operating income of 612 million Euro (+26.0%, for an incidence on revenues of 29.1%). Gucci products are sold exclusively through a highly selected network of directly-operated stores (which totalled 227 at June 2006), which represents more than 70% of Gucci total revenues. Other significant channels are franchisees; duty-free boutiques; department and specialty stores around the world. Ecommerce is also a complementary valuable channel. The Gucci's selling experience in all these channels is definitely exclusive, luxurious and highly desirable. Gucci is part of Gucci Group N.V., owned by PPR, a global player in Retail and Luxury Goods. Shares in PPR are traded on the Euronext Paris (#121485, PRTP.PA , PPFP).
